Today was a quintessential day of camping. I laid in a hammock. I went fishing. I went on a bike ride and a hike. I grilled a steak. I went fishing again. And now I might have a fire.

It was 75 and sunny, with hardly any bugs. While fishing on the dock, I talked to a local guy who has been coming here most of his life. His drawl was so thick I had a hard time understanding him, but he talked about how this winter has been unseasonably warm. I mentioned how great that was, and he took the opposite view. He says winter is the 3 months of the year when it’s nice and cool out, and this winter they were robbed of that with lots of temps in the 60s, 70s, and low 80s. I’m not from around here, but I’ll take it, I told him.

I think yesterday was a fluke: I didn’t catch a fish or even get a bite today.

Sounds perfect! Except for the blank on fishing.

Hi. I’m Adam Overland, a writer based in Minneapolis. These are the meanderings of my muddled mind. I’ve written humor columns for various print publications, so naturally that’s dead and here I am, waiting for the last gasp.
