My whole body is sore today

Easter was always a favorite holiday of mine growing up. It had all the ingredients of a perfect adventure, the key one being a treasure hunt. My mom and dad would hide a basket for each of us kids, and that basket contained treasure; namely, a bunch of unhealthy candy. It was like Halloween, but you hardly had to do any of the work. Plus, how amazing was it to think that a giant bunny was going around hiding things?

Christmas is the only other holiday that can really compete with Easter. Although there’s no treasure hunt, there is a mysterious fat man who leaves gifts, including tons of candy. In my mind, these are just fantastic little adventures for kids to go on, no matter what you think about the religion parts. When you’re a kid, I imagine that everything seems so strange, so new, and your little mind is busy trying to make sense of it all, so that one more giant delivery bunny or flying fat man, each of them tossing candy around, doesn’t really throw you or strike you as out of the ordinary.

But I just hung around the house today, and no one hid anything from me and I didn’t eat any candy. I’m not too bummed about it, but it I wouldn’t have complained.

I’ve been reading a good book, a new one by Cormac McCarthy, who is 89 years old. He hadn’t published anything in 16 years, but this book, The Passenger, is solid and he hasn’t lost a step. His sentences are choppy, his writing vivid and as bleak as ever. I admit I didn’t know who he was until just a few years ago, and then I read Blood Meridian, and within a few months after that I’d read everything he’d written aside from No Country for Old Men, because I saw the movie.

My whole body is sore today, because after being away for two months, I started up my exercise routine again on Thursday and Friday, and even though I took it easy, my body did not like to be exercising again and is now showing its displeasure.

I need to plan my weekends better to get more things done. I didn’t accomplish much the past couple of days.

Issue: This also isn’t that exciting of a blog post.

Hi. I’m Adam Overland, a writer based in Minneapolis. These are the meanderings of my muddled mind. I’ve written humor columns for various print publications, so naturally that’s dead and here I am, waiting for the last gasp.
