Poem for the Puppy Bowl

Poem for the Puppy Bowl

In honor of that greatest of bowl games, a poem written by a dog

Dog Poetry

I want to be pet and snack snacks
I want to chew and to nap
I want to howl and bark
And take a walk at the park
and oh, what a lark
I love you

If you want I will sit and I’ll shake
I will do whatever it takes
I’ll chase and I’ll fetch
And I’ll always play catch
Downward dog is our stretch
I love you

I like to sniff and to poo
And I like to sniff my poo too (don’t judge)
I’ll bow-wow you for treats
Aren’t I ever so sweet
It is past time to eat!
I love you

When I’m old and just like to snuggle
And stairs are oh such a struggle
When after all the years
You’ll still scratch my ears
And ease all my fears
I love you

And if someday I can’t hear your call
And we come to the end of it all
Don’t be afraid
For you I was made
I love you
I love you
I love you

Hi. I’m Adam Overland, a writer based in Minneapolis. These are the meanderings of my muddled mind. I’ve written humor columns for various print publications, so naturally that’s dead and here I am, waiting for the last gasp.
